Starting in the New Year, fees for visiting boaters in The Bahamas will change based on a new pro-rated scale that takes into consideration the size of each boat. The fees are outlined in the Customs Management (Amendment) Regulations, 2019, which were passed  by Parliament earlier this year. The fees apply to all pleasure vessels entering The Bahamas, and cover a cruising permit, fishing permit, and the departure tax for up to three individuals. 

The boating community is advised that effective January 1, 2020, the new schedule of fees are: 

• Up to 34' - $150 for 3 months; $300 for a year
• 35' - 100' - $300 for 3 months; $600 for a year
• 100' - 150' - $500 for 3 months; $1,000 for a year
• 150' - 200' - $800 for 3 months; $1,600 for a year
• Over 200' - $1,000 for 3 months; $2,000 for a year

Each additional person, above three, will be charged a $20 departure tax. This fee is good for a second re-entry within a 90-day period. Special arrangements must be made with Bahamas Customs and Immigration Departments for staying longer than 12 months.

The Government announced plans to increase boating fees during the June 2019 budget exercise. Revenue collection agencies are preparing for the implementation on January 1, 2020. The Ministry of Finance plans to engage in continued dialogue with the boating community as these changes are implemented, and collaborate with the Ministry of Tourism to strengthen communication efforts and ensure stakeholders have the information needed for a smooth roll-out in the New Year.
